Class Etiquette & Health & Safety Regulations

Your health and safety is our priority. Before booking your lesson with York Pole Dance Academy please read through the following health and safety regulations carefully. Making your booking with us means that you agree to follow our health & safety regulations listed below. 

  • Do not wear any body lotions, hand cream, self tan, sun cream or oils on the day of your lesson. Creams and lotions can make the poles slippery and you would be putting the safety of yourself, other students and instructors at risk. Students attending wearing cream will not be able to take part in class.

  • To take part in our classes you must be aged 18+. There is no upper age limit. 

  • Please do not chew gum during classes. 

  • Bare feet or branded pole heels with ankle straps only (Pleaser / Creatures XIX etc) .  If in doubt please ask for advice before purchasing. 

  • All jewellery needs to be removed during lessons. This includes rings, bracelets, hoop earrings, necklaces and watches. Exposed belly bars should be removed or covered by a plaster.

  • Please look after your valuables. York Pole Dance Academy accept no responsibility for items left/lost 

  • Do not advise, give tips or teach other students. Leave teaching to our qualified instructors. 

  • Your instructors are there to teach you and to keep you safe. Please listen to their instruction at all times. 

  • No dancing under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  • Please show respect for our venues, equipment, instructors and other students.

  • Please arrive to your lesson on time. If you arrive after warm up has started then you will not be able to partake.

  • Before taking part in a lesson or workshop with us you will be asked to complete a PARQ (physical activity readiness questionnaire) 

  • It is your responsibility to keep you PARQ (physical activity readiness questionnaire) up to date. Should their be any change to your health then you would need to complete a new form. 

  • Please update any change off address, phone number or emergency contact details by completing a new PARQ form.

  • Please disclose prior to the lesson, all medical conditions on the PARQ health questionnaire and if unsure consult your doctor prior to taking part.                                                                                                              

  • Pole dancing is NOT suitable for pregnant women, if you are pregnant you will not be permitted to join the lesson. If you are postnatal please get clearance from your doctor to partake in pole lessons.                    

  • Please understand that pole dancing is an extreme activity you are liable to receive bruises and sores during the course of your lesson. You cannot hold the instructors or company liable in the event of any injury or fatality. You participate at your own risk and can opt out at any point.                                                 

  • Disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated. This includes talking over instruction, dismissal of instruction, shouting or screaming, disruptive body movements and using mobile phones/cameras during lessons. Please make sure that you are not causing a distraction. 

  • You will not be permitted to invert without the use of a mat (min 2" thickness) 

  •  Pole grips are not provided. You would need to bring along your own grip or they can be purchased at class. Only branded pole grip aids specifically for pole dance may be used. 

  • York Pole Dance Academy is an authentic style school. We follow a dance based syllabus along with spins, holds, inverts, low flow, Russian style and floor work. We do not teach pole fitness. 

  • Students that are self taught/have attended classes elsewhere. Please note that our instructors will place you in a class that they feel suits your ability based on the syllabus that we teach. You will be asked to use our techniques and names. Please be gracious and accept that all schools use different names and techniques. Please bear this in mind before attending

  • Please only use the poles during your supervised lesson.

  • You will need to bring to each lesson - pole grip, shorts, leggings, pole shoes, hoody/long sleeve top, vest and knee pads. Please come prepared. (this does not apply to beginners lessons)

  • Class photographs and videos may be uploaded to Social Media. If you do not wish to appear on social media please make us aware on your PARQ form 

  • GDPR compliance. The only personal data we hold on you is your completed PARQ health and safety form. This form is held in a sercure locked box and will be shredded after 7 years. 

Students who do not adhere to our rules and etiquette are putting the safety of themselves and others at risk and will be asked to leave immediately
